Episode 06: The Sound of Music

Maria, a rebellious young nun in Austria, takes a job as a governess for the seven children of a stern retired naval officer and widower. Today the film is remembered more for its singing children and catchy tunes than for its more sinister political backdrop — Hitler’s rise to power. Inspired by a true story and adapted from the stage musical, THE SOUND OF MUSIC won the Oscar for Best Picture. (1965)
