A film editor, a retired New York City commissioner, and a Scottish-born superfan share different, but connected stories of the ways Bill Forsyth's charming comedy impacted their lives.
In LOCAL HERO, an American oil company executive named Mac (Peter Reigert) is ordered by his eccentric, astronomy-obsessed boss (Burt Lancaster) to the fictional coastal village of Ferness in Scotland to buy out the town and clear the way for a massive refinery. Instead of facing opposition, Mac discovers that the residents are more than willing, they are eager to sell and cash in on the deal. But negotiations stall when a stubborn, eccentric man refuses to give up his shack on the beach. As Mac become immersed in the community and their day to day exitence, he becomes deeply seduced by the village's quirky charm, beautiful scenery, and slower pace of life, ultimately causing him to question his corporate priorities before his billionaire boss arrives to resolve the dispute in a highly unexpected way.
